Welcome to Waccamaw Elementary School's Guidance Department!

Your school guidance counselors are Joanne Foster and Caroline Temple.  We look forward to working with you and your child this year.  We are committed to assist in the personal/social, academic, and career development of each and every student.

Joanne Foster is the full-time counselor and teaches all of the kindergarten and 2nd grade guidance classes.  She is here all day.

Caroline Temple is the half-time counselor and teaches all of the 1st and 3rd grade guidance classes.  She is here every morning and then goes to the Intermediate School.

The purpose of the guidance program is to help students become respectful, knowledgeable, and caring citizens. The guidance curriculum focuses on three standards:

1. Learning to Live;   2. Learning to Learn; and  3. Learning to Work.

Here is a list of services that we provide:

Classroom Guidance: All students in K-3rd grade receive guidance lessons as part of their Special Area rotations.  Some of the topics taught include: character education, friendship, cooperation, bullying, conflict resolution, anger management, career awareness, drug/alcohol awareness, study skills, and test-taking skills.

Individual Counseling: We work with students on a one-to-one basis to help them with academic, behavioral, and/or social difficulties.  Students can be referred for individual counseling by parents, teachers, administrators, or themselves.

Small Group Counseling: We offer groups on a variety of topics including but not limited to social skills, divorce, grief and loss, and anger management.

Consultation: We work with parents, teachers, administrators, and various agencies to better serve our students.

Please contact us if we can be of service to you or your child.
