3rd Grade S.P.I.C.E. Club

Students Participating in Character Education

The S.P.I.C.E. Club at Waccamaw Elementary School is for all 3rd grade students. The purpose of the S.P.I.C.E. Club is to help fulfill the mission of WES by providing activities that help children become respectful and caring citizens. The monthly activities focus on character building and service learning.

  The monthly meetings are held during school hours on the first Friday of each month. The majority of the activities focus on developing the good qualities of the character words of the month and providing opportunities to participate in service learning projects. Special guest speakers address the students during these meetings.

  Character Words of the Month

September: Respect: To show consideration for the feelings and rights of yourself, others, and the world around you.

October:       Honesty: To tell the truth and to lead a life of honor and dignity.

November:   Courtesy: To be polite and considerate toward others.

December:   Responsibility: To follow through with your commitments; to be dependable.

January:       Sportsmanship: To observe the rules of play and to win or lose with grace.

February:     Judgment: To have the ability to make a sound decision or to form an opinion.

March:          Perseverance: To work hard without giving up; to persist in a task despite obstacles.

April:            Integrity: To behave in accordance with your values; to be faithful to a standard of conduct.

May:             Confidence: To have a realistic positive attitude about one's self; to trust in one's self.

  Service Learning Projects

  Opportunities for participating in service learning projects will be provided at WES. Here are some of the service learning projects the students may participate in this year:

  • September-June: S.P.I.C.E. Club Patrol
  • September/October: Donations for the United Way
  • November: Holiday Mail for Heroes
  • December: Toys for Tots
  • January: Random Acts of Kindness
  • February: Pennies for Patients
  • March: Jump Rope for Heart
  • April: Earth Day/Caring for the Rain Garden
  • May: Relay for Life
  • All Year: Tabs for Ronald McDonald House

  S.P.I.C.E. Club Patrol

  Students will be nominated by their homeroom teachers each month to serve on the patrol. These students will wear S.P.I.C.E. Club Patrol vests and will be stationed at the front and back doors (to open the doors for others) and also in the hallways to help monitor movement.
